DC Fray is DC’s largest lifestyle community with nearly 45,000 annual participants in 2016. Our mission is to Make Fun Possible!
To accomplish that mission we organize social sport leagues, special events, and increasingly promote news and information that helps our members have fun! From Kickball leagues to tubing trips and bar crawls to new year’s eve parties, DC Fray holds a unique place in the fabric of the city. With portions of our league dating back to 2004 we have over a decade of experience creating incredible experiences for our members and strong relationships with our partners.
We have pulled together an amazing team of individuals with an eclectic background in marketing, sports management, community development, business administration, and event planning. Interning at USS will give you the opportunity to have direct hands on experience and mentorship in a way that other internships just aren’t able to provide.

The Internship Program
Most students will complete a 300-400 hour internship to satisfy graduation requirements. This equates to 40 hours per week for 7-10 weeks. Some students will need to stay longer and some will have shorter practicum requirements with less time commitment. These cases will be addressed individually but typically interns must be available for a minimum of 20 hours per week for a minimum of 6 weeks to be considered for placement. Interns are hosted year round with flexible schedules!
Students have four specific areas of specialization to select from: League Operations(League/Sport Managers), Marketing, Events/Sponsorships, and Business Administration.
Interns can also expect that there were be several areas of the business that each position will get exposed to, but will not be the focus of their internship. On top of their daily activities and exposure, they will be given a "master" project in their area of interest.
Students will select one of the areas of concentration:
League Operations -- Students will work directly with an assigned sports coordinator. These coordinators are responsible for the operations of all sports leagues, social leagues, tournaments, and other special league events. The sports include Soccer, Flag Football, Volleyball, Kickball, Softball and more. The social sports include Bocce, Cornhole, Skeeball, Multi-sports, and Shuffleboard. They will be immersed in the scheduling and execution of these programs including the league management software. In addition they will have hands on experience in the preparation and execution of the leagues as a whole. Including but not limited to; league t shirts, trophies, equipment preparation, staffing and more!
Event Operations -- Students will work alongside the Manager developing event strategies (player and non-player events,) planning and execution of events, identifying potential sponsors, retention and relationship management of current sponsors, special event management, and more.
Business Administration -- Students will learn the administrative details of a social sports business, including human resources (staff recruitment, hiring, firing, records, etc.), payroll, profit and loss considerations and inter office communications.
Marketing & Branding -- Students will work alongside their department Manager developing marketing and branding strategies, allocating marketing dollars for different media outlets, developing ads, creating social media promotions, doing research and more.
